Electronic Systems Engineer

We are looking for a young Electronic Systems Engineer, preferably with an Electronic/Electrical Engineering degree or Technicon equivalent.

The ideal successful candidate would also need to have solid experience with Windows XP, 2000+ and computer LANs in general, and in addition would need to be a practical "hands on" person who has had maintenance experience with electronic passive components, semiconductors and microprocessors right down to individual component level. This is not a “PCB swapping” post.

We ideally require someone with experience in analogue telephony and analogue switching, plus digital telephony/ISDN and digital switching, including networked PABXs.

We are looking for a good overall generalist, rather than someone who has concentrated in a single field of expertise.

The job involves installing and commissioning complex microprocessor based telecommunication systems, then maintaining these systems in the field.   The successful applicant is required to have a good understanding of our application software systems.

This position can offer the right person a great deal of exciting and practical experience with modern high technology Communication Control Systems.

Training and studying technical documentation requires a detailed knowledge of English on a technical and legal level. However a working knowledge of Afrikaans and/or any other South African language would be useful, though not essential.

Please note that an expert overall knowledge of the systems will be essential in order to perform the required functions well.

Internet and email facilities at home are an essential requirement for this position.

A salary commensurate with the successful applicant's experience will be offered.

A car is an absolute essential, as the successful applicant will be required to visit existing and new customers’ sites.

Please read the paragraph entitled "All Applicants Need to Read the Following" as it applies to this position.

All Applicants Need to Read the Following

We are South Africa's premier supplier of Emergency Communication Control (911) systems.  We need to be specific about the precise product range that Micromation sells, which is known in South Africa as “Communication Control Systems”.  Communication Control systems are those systems which allow a number of operators in a control room to view and access all the incoming communication channels into the center, whether these be dial lines, ISDN channels, private wires or magneto lines, radio channels, C.C.T.V. channels, etc.

Communication Control Systems usually are classified into one or more of the following categories :-

Each and every one of the above systems is custom designed to suit its required application, therefore a good general knowledge of the system modules, their capability, and the way they may be interconnected is essential.   Training on the system will be given to the successful applicant.

As may be appreciated, these systems are usually very expensive, and most orders are received by means of a competitive tendering process.  For the production of these tenders, the staff needs to have a working knowledge of at least MSWord, Excel, & PowerPoint.

To give you some idea of the company and the product, please study the main web page.  If you would like to apply for this position, please email your C.V. and any other information you regard as relevant to Belinda at belinda@micromation.co.za .

Thereafter, if the position has not yet been filled, we will arrange a personal interview, which will be conducted, at our Germiston offices.    Please note that if you fail to complete and retransmit the Employment Application form, and consequently it is not received promptly by the company, you will not be considered for the position.

Please do not email your scanned certificates or diplomas, as these will only be examined during the interview.  You may nevertheless refer to these certificates in your CV as if they were attached to your emailed CV.  Should you be asked to attend an interview, you will be required to present the interviewer with all your original certificates for inspection.   In cases where the originals are not available, certified copies are needed for inspection.

During the interview, all the details of the position will be given, and all relevant questions will be answered.  Please note that you will be expected to have read and understood the web page prior to the interview, and during the interview you will be questioned on its contents.

You will be asked for references during the interview.   Please have a list of references that the company can contact by phone, email or fax.

The position would ideally suit applicants who live in the East Gauteng/Near East Rand area, namely Bedfordview, Edenvale, Germiston North, Johannesburg East, Boksburg, Kempton Park, Benoni or Alberton.  Please note that if you presently live outside East Gauteng, and you are requested to attend an interview, you will need to make your own travel and accommodation arrangements.

A Medical Aid or Hospital Plan is mandatory unless you are covered by your spouse's medical aid or hospital plan.

Parking is provided free of charge in a secure area under shade cloth.

Working hours are "flexitime" from 7:30 to 17:00 hours, 39 hours per week, 5 days per week, excluding all public holidays.  All staff are given 15 working days leave per annum, plus one additional working day per annum for each year completed with the company, up to a maximum of 20 working days leave per annum in total.

The company's offices are situated in a quiet, safe, enclosed office park area adjacent to the residential areas of Sunnyrock and Sunnyridge in Germiston North, overlooking the N12 Witbank Highway.

We regret that we cannot consider applications from people outside of South Africa, or non-South Africans who are living in South Africa, but who do not possess a valid work permit.

As soon as the company has identified a successful candidate, it will make this candidate an offer. Once a candidate has accepted the offer, no further interviews will take place.  It is therefore incumbent on the candidates to reply speedily to the company in order to be considered for an interview at the earliest opportunity.

Please note that the above employment opportunity indicates a need within the Company for certain services.  These services should be supplied by suitable candidates, but in the event that no candidates are deemed suitable by the Company, the services will be outsourced. Therefore this or any other Micromation advert for staff does not necessarily indicate that staff will be hired, nor do the adverts constitute an offer of employment. Back to the top of the page
